The Invisible Squirrel. Paypal. The Blog

by Jon Katz
Duty. Affirmation. Squirrels

On the book tour, I see the power of the blog as an affirmation and record of my life, a living memoir, a fusion point between technology and creativity, the record of my writing, my search to grow and change, my life with Maria, the dogs the donkeys, the photography. I am not good as showing emotion, but feel a lot of it, especially when I see how much bedlamfarm.com has come to mean to people.

Rose came to the farm eight years ago, and on the first day, saw a squirrel in that tree. Every day since, rain or shine, snow or fog, she continues her search for him, and I hope that one day, she at least gets a piece of his tail. Like Simon’s bray, Rose’s sense of duty and her work ethic are a call to life for me, an inspiration. I always smile when I see Rose checking out that tree.

More good news on the Battenkill Book front. Connie Brooks is making it better and easier to buy copies of “Going Home” and my other books as the holiday season approaches. I am hoping to hit the 1,000 book mark, and it looks like “Going Home” is the book to do it. Steve Jobs said aim high and you will get high. (I am up since 4 a.m. in an inn in S. Hadley reading, before we set out for Martha’s Vineyard and Grapes of Wrath, where the President chooses his vacation reading).

Connie is offering free videos and notecards from Bedlam with the purchase of any of my books and she has also activated Paypal on the Battenkill Books Website so buying “Going Home” is even easier. Time to get up grab some toast and head for the ferry. I hope to get some neat photos, as the day is supposed to be cold but sunny. Connie has become famous, I see, as people everywhere on the book tour tell me how much they enjoy talking to her and her mother Marilyn. 518 677-2515. Good October light, I hope, in a beautiful place.
