The winter beach looked burnished and crisp after the Northeaster passed. The ferries are running again and we will head home tomorrow. Going to be home one day, then in NYC Wednesday, then in Wilmington, Vt. Thursday. Saturday, Saratoga Springs, 2 p.m. Barnes & Noble.
Waiting on the beach when the clouds broke, and the sun burst through and lit up the winter beach. How lucky to be stranded there. Learned that Simon has a deep ulceration in his eye, perhaps due to hay and has been seen by a vet and treated with drops and ointment. We’ll be home tomorrow. He is in good hands.
I could not believe how cold it was and how long these men stood by the water’s edge in 90knot wind. They did well, they said and they deserved it.
A big storm washes up scallops and in the cold wind, the fishermen came out in their trucks to rake and dig until their fingers froze. “Hey put your gloves on!” they yelled at me. So I did, but it is hard to manipulate the lens with gloves on.
The wind is still howling, though quieting. Can’t wait to walk, carry my camera around, the aftermath of any storm is beautiful, cleansing, spiritual. The sky and the earth are so much alive.
