Coyotes In The Field: Vigiliance

Donkeys are guard animals, that’s why I got them in the first place, to protect the sheep. When we went out to do the barn chores this morning, all three were deployed like Secret Service Agents around theĀ  sheep staring out into the field near Lulu’s Crossing, we saw a coyote sliding through the marsh near the woods behind the pasture.

Red, of course, paid no mind to this distraction, he kept focused on business, watching the sheep, where were circling nervously behind us. There is no need to worry about coyotes when you have donkeys, if anything comes near the sheep they stop being gentle and curious, they lower their heads and charge, biting, stomping and kicking. I loved the vigilance expressed in this scene, donkeys and dogs.
