Poem: The Working Dog In Me

Poem: The Working Dog

Hey,

Just ask the working dog in me,

to talk to the working dog in you.

There are so many beautiful and wonderful animals,

brilliantly colored birds, tall and proud horses,

fish shimmering in the streams,

they are all waiting for me,

to say something exciting and wonderful,

from my heart to theirs.

But not today.

Today, I want to love the working dog,

to talkĀ  to him.

Hey working dog,

are you ready to work with me?

Let’s turn loose our green-eyed hawks,

our golden falcons in the sky,

and let our spirits run and soar,

together, for you and I are among the most beautiful things,

God and nature ever conceived, and let loose,

upon the earth.

In all the species of the world, there is not much like us,

except the horse, and the donkey.

Hey,

that is my wish for you, working dog,

to run in the endless fields,

golden grass to the horizon,

sheep without fences

let us run together, even in my dreams,

and sing our sweet songs to God,

until he smiles,

and runs with us for awhile.
