New Idea: Living Art. Annals Of Creativity

New Idea: Living Art

We are stripping the gloomy wallpaper off of the dining room walls, it is a big and beautiful room, but dark and a bit dingy. We are painting the walls a warm yellow (with a bit of orange) and we had this idea this morning to take this section of the wall and turn it over to Maria, where she can turn it into a living piece of art, not something that you hang over a wall but something that includes the wall.

She would use the colors and marks of the old wall board, and so some deconstructionist art. Rather than hide this section of the wall, use it to make art that is derived, in part, from the wall itself. We were both excited about it, and Maria, a true obsessive, is already fixated on it, I will be a little surprise if she doesn’t start work on it tonight. At first, I thought of it as a canvas for a work of abstract art with bold colors, but Maria has some other ideas which are, frankly, more exciting and interesting.

The idea isn’t to place a work of art over the wall section, but to make the wall a part of the art itself. We are both grateful to be living with someone who loves this idea  and can’t wait to see it.
