I met the Wilson’s Friday, they came walking up the driveway and gave me some big hugs. They came from Mississippi, and they joined us for pizza at the Round House Cafe. It was their first visit to our town. It was apparent to Maria and to me how much they loved one another, we were humbled that they came so far to see us. After dinner, we left, exhausted. The next morning Scott Carrino, the cafe owner called me to ask who they were. They saw how busy the cafe was and how tired Scott was and they mopped the floor, wiped the tables and helped do the dishes. He said they were there a long time. It meant a lot to us that people like that would come so far to see it, and I very much hope it was worth it for them. It sure was for us.

Portraits Of The Open House: Tyler
Tyler entered our lives last year. He is fourteen years old, He came to the Open House last year because we hired him to help with the parking. He came to the Open House this year because he belongs there, he is part of our community. We do not usually see his smile, he is serious about his work. He has worked himself into a coveted place in the Bedlam Farm lexicon, we are proud to know him.
Portrait Of The Open House: Beautiful Things To See
A lot of people talked about it, and I could feel a radiance about the weekend and the people who came to see us, a good feeling, uplifting things to see and feel everywhere. So much bad news, an energy that radiated from the people and the animals, that touched souls and opened hearts. How lucky.
Portraits Of The Open House. Strong Women
When I think of the open house, I think somehow of many strong and loving women, coming together for community, creativity, and connection. They are hope, for now and for the future, and this gathering spoke loudly of that.
Open House, Day Two
Open House visitors jammed the Round House Cafe again this morning, the skies have cleared and it looks like the second day of the Open House will get underway soon. There were a lot of gloomy rain forecasts, but so far, they have not materialized. This should be a quieter, simpler kind of day but we should be able to do some sheepherding and get in some poetry readings. We were exhausted last night, but are rallying a bit today. The next Open House will be in October, Columbus Day weekend. I imagine Fate will be using power tools by then.
