Ed Gulley looks like a mountain man, which he is.  But he is a dairy farmer, a small family farmer. There are not many left. He is also a fierce individualist, a dinosaur, one of a dying kind of tribe.  And an artist and sculptor. He hates to shave, so he grew a bear, he says he will cut it off in a couple of years when he turns 65. He keeps his hair long in the winter to stay warm as he is outside all day.

One day, he says, I’ll get to see him all gussied up and proper. Not that he cares what anyone thinks, he surely does not. I don’t get to take so many timeless portraits of a very strong man.
