I’m still surprised every time I see the Tin Man sitting out in front of the road, beckoning passersby to our Open House, which runs Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.I know most of the people reading this life too far away to come, but I will share as much of it as I can.
The Open House is a reflection of my life with Maria and our work together t support creativity in all its many incarnations. The Tin Man came right out of the very interesting psyche of Ed Gulley, a dairy farmer and farm and junk artist. He loves the Tin Man character and talks to his Tin Man all the time.
Ed is charging $750 for The Tin Man, I think he will sell it, but it might take awhile, and I think he would hate to part with it, to be honest. He floated the idea of renting it to us for awhile, I like the idea of the Tin Man as a symbol of the new Bedlam Farm. It works as well as a border collie.
I’ve know Gordon McQuerry for a year or so, I don’t know him well, I’ve seen him in the Round House Cafe, mostly with Ashley, our friend and his girlfriend. I knew he was nice, and I liked him. He has been working as a carpenter at the Round House, helping Scott Carrino get the new cafe ready.
Gordon was raised as a farm boy, we learned this morning that he is also a writer and a musician. He has agreed to bring his ukelele over to the farm Saturday to play and also to sing with the RISSE refugee kids. He is bringing some hand drums. This is getting interesting.
We have three cords of firewood that need stacking, hopefully before Saturday, when the Open House starts and Gordon agreed to it, stacking three cords in a day did not seem a big task for him, he charges $15 an hour or a single flat fee, up to him. I’m trying to talk him into joining my writing workshop at Pompanuck when it resumes in the fall.
It’s a little hard for me to believe Gordon can do all of this one day, but he just laughs when I say that.
We made a real connection, and Gordon is eager and willing to help the refugee children learn and play music, he’s coming over to their retreat at Pompanuck at the end of the month. The Open House is going to rock, the refugee kids, music, drumming, Ed Gulley’s cow Silly Sally, and a van full of Mansion residents.
Plus all of our friends and followers. I’m going to be signing copies of “Talking To Animals” as well and Maria’s studio is crammed full of neat and affordable art. The yard is scattered with Ed Gulley’s wonderful creations, including the Tin Man.
It is amazing that Gordon has appeared in our lives in this way and at this moment. I think the angels send us what we need if we are open to it. The refugee kids will love him, and I have been looking for someone who can help them learn music, and Gordon has been studying and making music for years, he has his own studio and is working on his own album.
This is what we are supposed to be doing, this is what we are here for. Once again, I thank the angels for their good works.
I will not be watching television this morning, or listening to any commentary or arguments about the testimony of former FBI Director James Comey today. I read about it last night, and see no need to pay much more attention. Every day we have a choice about how much poison to put into our heads, and I choose to write, plan for the Open House, try and commit a small act of kindness.
I got a good start photographing this flower box, it keeps me in a good place to see color and light. I recommend it.
