The Farm On Route 67

The Farm On Route 67

This is one of the most beautiful farms on one of the most beautiful roads on one of the most beautiful hills in the county where i live. My friend Cathy Stewart and I went up there to try and capture the feel of this very rich landscape. Once again, I was a bit surprised at the depth and field of color reflected in my new Achromat lens. I took about a dozen photos an they allĀ  were way out of focus or place, the lens decided it liked this angle, i just touched the shutter.

It did look a little like a painting to me.

  1. I love your photos, and have been reading about your new lens. However, everything looks blurry and out of focus. Am I the only one who feels this way?
Sorry, I do not mean to be critical, it may just be me. I am having a hard time viewing and enjoying as usual.

    1. Sue, you are, of course, being critical. It’s okay to say so. I’ll live. You are not wrong, but you are missing the point, like it or not. The idea of the lens is to have a soft focus, to create an otherworldy affect that is dreamy or magical. It’s supposed to be out of focus slightly, although it does focus on somethings. Many people like it, you don’t, there is nothing mysterious about that. It’s just not your taste, but I love it and will keep doing it from time to time. Best, Jon..This is how early photography looked, people (like you) are used to digital clarity, I like this form once in awhile. Take care.

  2. This is beautiful! It does look like a picture. So peaceful. Your farm is such a rich tapestry of life.So glad that you share your experiences with us. You show the richness of rural life and the importance of place in our spiritual landscape. This would also make a nice print. Warmest wishes to you and Maria along with your peaceable kingdom.

  3. So much like a lovely painting of the farm country (NW Missouri) where I grew up, and now live in a nearby town. This is a very special photo.

  4. Jon, this is absolutely beautiful. I love the softness the new lens gives this landscape. Do you think you would sell this as a print, too?

    1. Yes, Suzanne, I will sell the print (smaller a bit than the heron photo and thus less money..) details to come..and thanks..

  5. Hi Jon,
I’m a painter of landscapes and often use photography. The Farm on US 67 struck me as a modern american landscape painting, painterly.

    1. Humbling coming from you Claudia, thank you, it has the feel to me of a painting, and also a photograph in parts…I was shocked by it…thanks for the good words.

  6. Jon, this is another favorite. I encourage you to offer this one as a limited print. I really, really love it. It reminds me of James Herriot.

    1. Janet, I am offering this for sale, an 8 x 10 print for $50..Maria’s going to handle this and get a commission, she post this on her blog this week and I’ll write about it too..lots of interest in this image..thanks..
