Portrait: Maria In The Barn. The Freedom Of Truth.

by Jon Katz
Maria In The Barn

Maria does not pose for photos and I do not ask her too.  We both accept that being photographed is a part of our lives and work and creativity, neither of us love being photographed, but we accept it. If you are a photographer, taking a portrait of someone is a special gift and affirmation.

i take portraits of Maria for many reasons, it’s a way of pinching myself to prove that she is real, and that she loves me, and that I am with her and loving her, and being loved by her, things I had given up on in my life.

The camera does love her, and yesterday, out in the barn talking to the sheep, i had this very powerful urge to capture her love and gentleness and openness. Maria is real, and I love her, and I believe she loves me – this sometimes seems unimaginable to me, but she is not capable of guile or deception. Last night, we talked about the lies we have told in our lives and the lies people have told us.

We have never lied to one another, so we believe our love for each other,  our love is free to grow and shine.
