Sunday Journal: Thrift Shop Score: $101.37

Thrift Shop Score

I made an efficient, savvy, and sold Thrift Shop score yesterday. For $101.37, I got two skirts, two fleece vets, three pairs of soft, elastic pants, a beautiful pink sweater, a solid blue winter wool cap, and a red winter overcoat.

The other things I need – underwear, slipper socks, sweat pants, and a big fluffy robe. I discovered this week that one of the Mansion residents who needs some clothes has been giving all of her money to charity, leaving little for herself.

She’s going to try a budget where she saves some of her money for herself. In the meantime, we can help her out. My Thrift Shop strike – this one at the Second Hand Rose in Bennington, Vt. – was a precision strike.

My friend Morgan at the Mansion is still trying to figure out my Thrift Shop sources, but she hasn’t gotten it yet. She will, though, she’s smart and doesn’t miss much. I have a circuit now, I know which ones are good for shirts, sweaters, and which one have good clothes for men and also the best stretch pants.

Each time I got to a Thrift  Shop, I learn more about sizing and quality and move faster and more efficiently. Some of the residents really need these clothes now, it is frigid here at the moment. I’ll drop some of the sweaters off there before our Christmas drop-in this afternoon.

I’ve gone online for underwear, bras, underpants and more personal clothing. I think we can have the clothes everybody needs available and distributed by next week.

  1. I’m glad to know that Second Hand Rose is still thriving. It was my go to place when I lived in Bennington. FYI: Should you need another thrifty source for clothes, Swap.com is fabulous, but not as fun as perusing the real aisles. Cheers!
