Rays Of Hope, Fighting For The Good

Good In The World

“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift of God, which is why we call it the present.” – Bill Keane.

The sun showed itself this morning, its first appearance in more than a week of snow, ice and freezing rain. For me, the sun is always a harbinger of hope and promise. There is good in the world, wrote Tolkien, and it’s worth fighting for.

I think the sun reminds us to look for the good and think of it, and fight for it. This weekend: writing workshop, maybe a movie, and tomorrow, going to the Powell House with the refugee kids to show it to them and give them a preview. If you wish to contribute to this retreat and conference for the soccer team, you can send your contribution to my post office box, P.O. Box 205, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816 or via Paypal, [email protected].

I thought the donations were being held up by the snow, but it turned out there were not as many as indicated. I’ll make up any shortfall, it is imperative that these kids go to this youth conference.

The retreat will cost $2,100, we have collected about $1,500 so far. I am contributing $500 of my own money, I’m grateful to do it. Thanks so much, this may be the first time these brave young people will get to talk about their lives and challenges with two experienced and trained counselors. I think it could be a life changing experience for them.

    1. Mary, thanks, the photos and blog work is how I make my living and pay my bills. If necessary, I’ll be happy to pay for the balance of the retreat, and have already paid for a good chunk of it, but the long term solution to fund-raising – we do a lot of it – is not to give away my income. That would quickly bring an end to this work. I spend enough of my money as is, and have no complaints or regrets about it. And if I had millions, I would happy spent most or all of it. I do not.

        1. No apologies necessary, Mary, it was a perfectly fair question, I was just explaining it to people. You have nothing to apologize for.
