Portrait: Ruth And Ken

by Jon Katz
Ruth And Ken

I think Ruth and Ken may be the Mansion’s happiest people. They are devoted to one another, they spend much of the day sitting on the sofa in the great room talking, and taking walks with one another outside.

They have been at the Mansion just a few months and have settled in beautifully. They seem so happy with one another.

Ruth told me today she has lost five pounds and expects to lose another 50 before some surgery she will undergo in August.

They both shyly asked me if I would consider taking a photo of the two of them before the surgery and make a print. She said she might need some new clothes after the surgery, I said I would be happy to help.

I  said I would be happy to do that. I’m sending this print to my printer and will be honored to give it to them.

If you wish, you can write to Ruth and Ken c/o The Mansion, 11 S. Union Avenue, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816.

  1. Jon,
This is a wonderful portrait. You capture the tenderness of their love for each other. This is important work that you are doing. Your photos of the Mansion residents and the Risse families are helping to connect them and their stories not just the Army of Good but so many others. Thank you.
