Bud Gets Checked

by Jon Katz
Bud Meets Dr. Fariello

Took Bud and his papers to the Cambridge Valley Vet to meet Dr. Suzanne Fariello, she checked him, went over the post-heartworm regimen, gave me a flea and tick collar and some heartworm and parasite medications.

Also a Lyme shot Bud (he’s 18 months old, according to his papers), Bud tests negative for Lyme, which is rare up here. I’d love to keep it that way. Dr. Fariello said his marking would ease up in a few days or weeks, in the meantime she likes my plan to water-spray him when he does it.

I’m not worried about the marking. He’s new and just neutered. He did take a dump in the dining room last night, so we might have some housebreaking to do. More crate time.

Bud was calm,  he is no stranger to a vet’s office, and he was easy to handle.  Dr. Fariello said he was at a perfect weight (despite Carol Johnson’s efforts to spoil him rotten) and in great health.

She asked me if I  had any concerns, and the answer was no, I don’t. He’s going to be a great dog for us, he already is. He made it into our bed last night, and burrowed in quite firmly at the bottom of the bed, and then crawled up to cuddle with us.

It is good to have him, I keep telling him his long journey is over, he is home now.

He is getting more playful – Fate is having none of it yet – and he adores Red, who tolerates him completely. He is getting more at ease by the hour, he even jumped up into the car this morning, i didn’t have to pick him up.

  1. Wow Onto the bed and even snuggling up in the night. I’d say he’s home. Really pretty amazing. Love seeing pictures of you an him and of all that you have posted. In Gus’ bed, so cute and a wonderful connection in memory I’m sure.
