King Bud: Radio Day

by Jon Katz

King Bud loves to sit on his new throne, the footstool in the living room, which is also close to the wood stove. Small dogs do not know they are small, that is their power and appeal.

He is the Lord of everything he surveys.

Today is  my new and experimental radio show, “Talking To Animals” on WBTNAM, 1370. You can livestream it here or download a free app like Simple Radio.

You can also call the station at 866 406-9286, or e-mail me your questions at [email protected]. The broadcast is two hours, one to three p.m.

This is sixth broadcast of “Talking To Animals,” an experiment for me to see if I can get a thoughtful show about animals to work on a non-corporate community radio station.

The broadcast is not Nielsen-rated, so I don’t know how many people are listening.

We get some calls, some very good questions but not yet a steady stream. I get a lot of e-mail about the broadcast, from all over the country, so I’m pretty sure a lot of people are tuning in.

But I’ll know in a few months if it’s working or not. WBTN is a struggling station, it has few resources to offer. My wish is that the broadcast is successful and WBTN gets a rebirth as well.

The station can be difficult to call at times, the phone and other equipment is pretty old, and we can only take one call at a time. But the people getting through have been interesting, the discussions strong.

I don’t know if that’ s a pie-in-the-sky dream, or something that is possible. We’ll find out soon enough. Listen if you can, e-mail if you  can, call if you can: 866 406 9286.

So far, I’m having a blast.
