Gratitude, Ingratitude. Hate Disguised As Love

by Jon Katz

It seems to me there is no neutral space between gratitude and ingratitude.

When I am not grateful, I begin to complain about many things, and I start regretting my mistakes of the past, and resenting the many people I thought have failed me. Ingratitude is the twin sibling of hate.

What I have learned is that the equation for me is rather simple.

When I am grateful, then I can love. When I didn’t love, then I hated.

In a spiritual life there is no such thing as indifference to love and hate. To me, indifference is a low thing, like hypocrisy.

Indifference, or tepidity,  is a form of hate often disguised as love.

Hypocrisy and true gratitude cannot really exist alongside one another, one will devour the other. To be grateful is to recognize the wonder and beauty of the world in everything, to find your own personal faith and embrace it.

Every moment of existence is a gift of life, every day a grace.

Gratitude never sleeps, it takes nothing for granted. It is a spiritual antibiotic, a powerful healing technique in the new age.

Gratitude constantly awakens me to new wonder and praise for the beauty of the world. The grateful man or woman knows that people are good, and life is a gift,  and that makes all the difference.
