Video: Come And Watch A Storm With Us

by Jon Katz

It’s been like this for days, several storm watches, torrential rain,  high winds, lots of thunder and lightning unnervingly close. When there’s a storm, Maria and I sit on the porch, hold hands and wait for the power to go out.

The frequency and intensity of these storms are new, people are experiencing them all over the country.

We are grateful that we put a new roof on the front porch and a new ridge cap on the red barn. Come and sit with us as we watched the tail end of a wicked storm (Bishop Maginn High School is flooded, the power is still off there).

The storms were all over this area and much of the rest of this country.

The power stayed on today, we missed the hail hitting all over the area. Come sit on the porch with us.

  1. Jon and Maria – Geeze, thanks for that !!! What a great storm. Everything gets so shiny and clean. Because it is so dry here (Los Angeles, CA) and no rain, businesses have to have power wash machines in big trucks come by 4 AM to power clean their awnings, windows and sidewalks clean – because nothing ever gets clean – long, thin tubes that power wash.
I can almost smell the clean fresh air from your storm – I DO remember how wonderful the scents are after a storm.

  2. I was so envious of your rain storms and we got one ourselves today. I wasn’t home but it must have been amazing. My bird feeding areas took a pretty good hit and my Russian sage. heavy with bee loving flowers is almost flat on the ground but I am still celebrating. We have been so hot and dry and suffering so from the fires the past few summers that this is an absolute blessing. Everything soaked with nitrogen rich, sweet smelling rain water. And it’s free and all the watering is done by the Angels. I’ll clean up the mess in the morning and sing praise to the rain goddess for this welcome summer of storms. The forests aren’t so prone to fires when they are all wet even when the lightening is raging. It’s such a problem out West here especially in the high desert and I live on the Western edge at the base of the mountains where it is still very forested. Loved listening to your wonderful storm also.

  3. That is awesome! Thanks for sharing it with us. It is so dry here (Macon, Ga.) my grass and some plants are dying, and I water what I can. How blessed you two are to be able to sit together on the porch and safely watch the storm.
