Bob And Diane Get A New Dog

by Jon Katz

Bob and Diane Vince just got a new dog.

You might recall a couple of weeks ago when I wrote about Bob and Diane, who lost their beloved dog Remington, just a couple of months after their house burned down.

Remington was one of those lifetime dogs, he was an integral part of their lives, and they were devastated by his loss.

The couple was having lunch at Jean’s Place, where they brought Remington shortly after he was diagnosed with a fast-moving and fatal form of cancer.

Robin, the waitress with the giant heart, saw Diane crying and asked what was wrong. When Diane told her about the house and the dog, Robin used a gift certificate someone had sent me (which I gave to Robin to give to people who needed help)  and she paid for their meal.

I wrote about their loss and posted their e-mail – [email protected] – on the blog and many people from all over the country wrote them and offered condolences and encouragement.

Sometimes I forget just how many people follow the blog, very few of them actually live near me, the blog is read all over the country.

This afternoon, Diane messaged that they had a new dog – I don’t have a name for him yet. Diane said the new dog is not Remington, of course. But just give him time.

I admire Bob and Diane, they share my philosophy of dog loss – I’d rather love a dog than mourn a dog. And there is nothing more healing after the death of a dog than a new puppy.

The couple told me several times how much your messages meant to them. Thanks for reaching out to them.

I’m very happy they have a new dog so soon, he looks great and I wish them every bit of luck and happiness.

I’m told their new house is under construction. Good luck with the house and the dog, Diane, and Bob, you are ready for some sunshine.
