Zinnia Works Her Charm On The Donkeys

by Jon Katz

Zinnia just doesn’t take no for an answer She works her charms on all the creatures of Bedlam Farm, first Bud, then Fate, now the donkeys. She’s even working on Liam, the grumpy wether who likes to try and butt her.

She even got Lulu and Fanny to do some braying, come and see. Her tail never stopped wagging.

  1. You’re right on with instructing your training assistants to use one word commands with Zinnia, not a conversational stream. In formal dog training, using multiple words and gestures is called a double command. Thus, “sit down” is confusing, because each word means something different. It”s either one, or the other. Speaking the 2 commands together causes the dog to hesitate, trying to decide what behaviour to offer. Just an observation: it helps trainers to avoid what we call “handler error.” Zinnia’s a a real treasure, and it’s so gratifying that you’re modeling and sharing her success!
