Do Your Animals Sense What’s Going On? Tell Us…

by Jon Katz

I think the dogs know we are tense sometimes, they cling closer and come over to check on us. Zinnia follows me into the bathroom.

I am sure the donkeys know, they call out to us, snuggle with us, seek more attention.

I think the sheep sense tension, they are edgy, butting heads with one another.

Flo the barn cat is coming up to me more frequently, wanting a scratch or cuddle. Minnie seems no different.

Do your animals sense your concerns and tension? If so please tell us on my Facebook Page, and thanks

  1. My dog does not notice. How would he? His life has not changed one bit, and I leave my stress at work. I do understand Maria’s tears that you discussed in the previous post. I work on the front lines of this and I had my first good cry last night after coming home. I felt better afterwards.

  2. I think that our dogs sense the tension that we are feeling. They follow us from room to room in the house. When I took my walk yesterday the three ganders made a lot of noise at me but that is nothing new for them in the spring and they start their mating season; it is my warning not to get too near. I told them though not to get to bossy, because I had the boss dog with me:)

  3. I think our dog Corina does, she’s staying closer than usual. Our old grumpy barn cat has taken to snuggling when I am in the barn which he never does normally. Escher our other dog is his regular bouncy self. I think they are all a little confused that my husband and I are home all the time since we both normally work.

  4. Friends of mine who have dogs, say that their dogs are more attentive to them. We have 3 indoor cats. In good old cat tradition, they seem not to notice or care. Just the usual “Where is my food, human?!” This is rather calming for me, the daily routine of cats, their choices of sleeping places, the positions they morph into, to sleep. Life as usual.
