Walk In The Woods: Photo Painting

by Jon Katz

The sky changed all day, from gloom and rain to wind and sun, and the most beautiful clouds. The woods are just beginning to turn green, as are our pastures. The paths are still clear, the dogs rush happily back and forth.

Fate and Zinnia stumbled across a big turkey mom sitting on her eggs, and the dogs were so startled, she had time to flee and take off into one of the trees.

We found her nest and left it alone, there were about a half-dozen eggs in it. Turkeys are not the brightest bulbs in the forest, but they rarely lay eggs in such an exposed position.

We shooed the dogs away and trust she came back later. Labs are retrievers, not hunters, and border collies are neither. Mostly, they run back and forth, Fate just loves to run, and Zinnia has a great nose for revolting things to eat.

It was a very beautiful day in the woods and I made this image into one of my photo paintings. I love the warmth of that genre, one I am experimenting with.
