For Sale: Sue Silverstein’s Timely “Happy Place”

by Jon Katz

This beautiful painting is sold! Thanks.

Sue Silverstein sent me a file of her lastest painting with this message:

“I just needed to paint a happy place…”

Sue has had a grueling year, the pandemic turned her life upside down – she devotes every minute of every day to her students – and she is also helping her son get ready for college in August.

Sue is an artist, she has started painting again to raise money for her son’s tuition. She’s setting up an Etsy page but she sent this to me today, it’s a beautiful piece and timely as hell.

I know Sue is planning to sell her paintings now, but I have no idea how much. Whatever she charges will be less than the painting is worth, that’s Sue.

For those of you who don’t know, Sue is the art and theology teacher at Bishop Maginn, and has been instrumental in my working with the school and helping them.

She is one of the most selfless people I’ve ever known. Her students stay in touch with her all of their lives. She’s one of those teachers.

She has the heart of an angel, and she might well be an angel. I love her very much and am privileged to work with her at Bishop Maginn High School. She is pure good.

We have become close and valued friends. If you are interested in this painting, you can e-mail Sue directly: [email protected]. Her phone no is 518 928 9742.

If you want the photo: please don’t let her take advantage of herself, she has no idea what she is worth. If you like it, don’t dally, I am restraining myself.
