Launching Army Of Good Thanksgiving Plans

by Jon Katz

Today, I’m launching our Thanksgiving Plans From the Army Of Good to Bishop Maginn High School and also to the Mansion.

Here they are, there’s still time to help if you wish to, and there is always some need for help.

First, I’m shipping off $1,000 in gift Cards From Wal-Mart and Price Chopper to the 10 refugee families in the BM community that need help buying food for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

This will clean me out of gift cards.

There are families that we have identified as being food insecure (a/k/a hungry in English), and I hope to give them some gift cards on a regular basis, as needed.

I have $100 in cards for each family. I can always use Wal- Mart gift cards, as the families can buy toiletries and soap, etc as well as food.

If you buy a card, please send it to me in any amount, Jon Katz, 2502 State Route 22, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816. And thanks.

If you prefer that I buy them, send the donation to the same address or to P.O. Box 205, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816, or via Paypal, [email protected].

Today, I’m bringing Zinnia to the Mansion to go inside and visit the residents.

I’m not allowed. I’m also bringing three beautiful caftans that Joan Frische of Hammonton, N.J. sent for the third year in a row, she made them herself and they are perfect for cool or cold evenings at the Mansion.

I know of three women in the Mansion who are susceptible to cold and will dearly love a beautiful caftan. I’m picking up seven sweaters at Carroll’s Trading Post this afternoon, winter is edging closer.

I’m arranging for a special Thanksgiving Day Lunch at the Mansion during Thanksgiving Week. Jean’s Place will cater, the lunch will cost $300.

I’m also raising gift card money for three Mansion aides who are struggling to pay for food, they all have small children or sick husbands. The Wal-Mart cards are also perfect for them.

And they are very simple to purchase.

Beyond that, we are planning a Christmas Wish List for the Bishop Maginn Families, they will each request a present that their children want and we’ll organize an Amazon Wish List as we did last year.

Our Amazon Wish List for new games and puzzles for the Mansion was a great success, and thanks.

This way, every child will get something they want for Christmas. And no member of the Bishop Maginn Family will go hungry.

They sure deserve some help, this has been a very tough year for them, both places.

Thanks, Joan, and everyone else for your help.
