My Window Just Now

by Jon Katz

Thanks so much for all of the lovely messages about my “My Window” photos. The dogs did their work a few minutes ago and barked when they heard the wagon wheels. I had just enough time to grab my camera and shoot out the window, spilling all kinds of books and paper off of my desk and onto the floor in the scramble.

I got about four seconds warning; those horses can move.

The Amish kids tell me several people have come to a stop at the food stand and say they know “the Book Man,” and that makes them smile, and it makes me smile.

I am grateful for the arrival of this family into my life. They have broadened it, lightened it, and enriched it. I love those kids.

I never tired of capturing images of these carts. I recognize Moise riding in that carriage from his silhouette.

People have asked if I would consider printing these images as postcards or a book.  I’m going to print some and give them to the family.

I might offer some of these as gratitude cards for donors to the Army of Good – the Mansion and the refugees –  but I don’t plan on selling any of them.

The family can use them as they wish.
