Chick Experiment Taking Shape

by Jon Katz

Our chick experiment is going well. They hop up onto our hands, they love to get up and peek out at the world, they love eating mealworms out of the palms of our hands.

We each have calls for them, and they respond. Next week, a rooster chick comes and we’ll probably have to separate him from them at first.

I think this is going to work out. They are very comfortable with us.

  1. You will learn soon that 2 hens are not enough for 1 rooster. 8+ hens for each rooster, your breeder will counsel you. Chicken can differentiate many sounds. Have fun with your experiment.

    1. That’s good Mary because we have two other grown chickens outside in their roost, our rooster will have five hens on his hands, a good amount for people who have their chickens for eggs to eat..We’ve had roosters and small numbers of chickens for years..
