Okay, Heated Indoor Cat House For Minnie And Flo (Don’t Tell My Farmer Friends)

by Jon Katz

Minnie and Flo move into the well-appointed temporary cat home in the basement once the deep winter sets in. Both are getting older and they let us know when it’s time to come inside.

Maria has set up a lovely cat area with beds, blankets, and fresh food and water. There are also plenty of mice to hunt.

The basement foundation is deep and well constructed, it rarely gets near freezing down there, but it has been so cold this week we’ve begun to worry about them down there.

Last night, we caved and went online and ordered a Pawhut indoor heated cat house for two. It’s coming in a few days. The two already cuddle up when it gets cold, they’ll have no problem getting warm in there.

There’s a lot more cold forecast to be coming in the next few weeks.

I won’t tell any of my farmer friends (and very few read my blog), they would think I’d gone completely out of my mind. These are both veteran barn cats quite used to taking care of themselves in all kinds of weather.

Still, it feels good to know they can be warm down there.

We were both laughing at how guilty we were feeling about these two very spoiled and much-loved cats. But I admit, I still sure feel a lot better when that cat house is here and plugged in.

  1. That’s nice. I used to love the snow and didn’t mind the cold. But these old bones can’t take it.

  2. It would be good to see a picture of the two of them with this shelter, if they take to it. We bought something similar for our previously feral cat and it was meant to stay outside. But she never gave it a second look. It is inside now and she uses it for play but I have always felt it was way too small. She is a small cat and cannot stretch out in it. So I am curious to see if this variety to the same theme would be big enough for an 8lbs cat to do that. Ours looks very similar, but it has just one ‘rooftop’. This is a different brand but the system looks the same, all with velcro. So I am looking forward to the pictures and your experiences!
