Worrying About Me. Waiting At The Top Of The Stairs

by Jon Katz

Maria goes in and out of the basement, a dozen times a day and the dogs pay no attention.

When I go, the three gather at the top of the stairs and watch and wait anxiously. They seem to be worrying bout me on those steep and wobbly wooden stairs. Dogs always know more than I think they know.

Yesterday I went down to check on the cats in their new heated house in the basement. The dogs didn’t move a muscle the whole time I was gone. And the cats are very happy with their heated home.

Their poses all speak a great deal about who they are. Zinnia lying down, chill as always, Fate poised and ready to jump at a minute’s notice, and Bud hanging back, letting his big sisters take the lead. I love this image, I am fortunate to have these dogs.
