Summer Breeze

by Jon Katz

The was very hot, but a breeze came up to blow the window curtains back and forth and reveal some of Maria’s succulent plants on the windowsill.

The image reminded me of Edward Hopper’s painting and photography, he loved to photograph curtains blowing in a farmhouse window. He is an inspiration to me in many ways.

He turned me on to the idea, it is an iconic American rural image I never get sick of.

  1. I’ve been trying to remember an Italian movie, set in Sicily, with wonderful gossamer curtains with lovely threads blowing gently by an open window looking out onto the hills (and maybe the Mediterranean) … and trying to find the curtains too. It seems like it was one of those movies with deep political and philosophical and historical meaning.
