Here Come The Marigolds: The Zoom Project Looms: Wednesday, September 14th, 10 A.M.

by Jon Katz

Maria gave me two Marigold plants to put in my garden beds; I’m reinforcing the flowers for the Fall. These are the first ones to go in my garden beds.

“Talk To Me,” my new weekly Zoom experiment, is set for Wednesday, September 14th, at 10 a.m.

People who wish to spend an hour with me talking and having some fun can sign up anytime, but officially at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

I will admit the first 15 people – first come, first serve – and we’ll talk. Feel free to bring any questions you have about me or the blog. I hope to have a free and open discussion with the people who read my blog and make it possible.

Blog posts and e-mails only get us so far and very often lead to confusion and misinterpretation, at least on my side. This is a safe zone; no arguments or cross-arguments are permitted.

Clicking on the hyperlink right below should get you into the meeting; the ID and passcode are there if you are asked for them. I know some people have signed in already, I don’t know how many.

If this works, I’d like to make it a weekly occurrence, raising the number of meeting members as we go.

But I don’t want too many at once. I want everyone to be able to talk and ask questions if they have them. Questions are essential; I don’t want to be giving a one-hour speech on Zoom; I’m looking for the dialogue I often got on my ill-fated radio shows.

This is a new kind of experiment; I’m unfamiliar with others like it. I don’t just want to text online. I think we need to share faces and voices, and ideas. I need to wear one of my newsboy caps to keep the glare from my bald spot from blocking my view on the computer screen.

I hope to see some of you in the meeting on Wednesday; I look forward to the conversation.

(Jon Katz is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

  1. I hope that with technology…and time…..that those of us not in the zoom group will be able to view a video of the discussion later. I know you are working on that prospect………. and I look forward to it *maybe* happening

  2. You’re unfamiliar with Zoom meetings? It’s all we have done for almost three years. Personally I’m so sick of Zoom I hope to never use it again and I’m sure a lot of others feel the same way. That being said, I’m that there are also some that have not been forced to use it that will be happy to chat with you. As burned out as I am with Zoom, I am very grateful that we had this technology available to us during Covid. It would have been even more difficult without it. It did enable us to stay in touch and continue work meetings.

    1. I use Zoom quite often; it works well for me. No one is being forced to use it, of course, and I find it simple and very easy to navigate. I haven’t tried a project like this, and I’m pretty sure it will work out. My tech advisor Andrew will be in the meeting with me, in case there are problems.
