Photo Journal, Friday, December 16. Storm Fizzles. Gloom Thrives. Color Lives

by Jon Katz

The 10 feet of snow blast did not materialize. They were only 10 feet off so far. But there was a lot of gloom, ice, and rain out there. How does a p photographer capture that?

I did my best. The answer was a Photo Journal, of course. And I threw in some color and light at the end.

Maria’s smile was a good start; she could light up any gloomy day. I got this shot when she looked over at the chicken roost and saw some songbirds sitting inside helping themselves to some chicken feed.

The hens didn’t seem to mind.

I got some evocative gloomy shots but mixed them with two Flower Therapy shots. It works out.

I’m going to our town’s Brave Little Bookstore, Battenkill Books. Nothing seems to slow it down or stop it, not the pandemic, not big storms.

It’s good to be reminded of what is coming soon: new flowers.

For me, Maria’s smile can light up the world.

Zinnia gave me her gloomy look because I wasn’t taking her with me. So I did. They call me Notorious Pussy.

I like looking out at my garden beds. They are just resting up for Spring, stuffed with fresh donkey manure.

The sun is up there but shy. I found its hiding place.

I’m ending on a note of color. Black and white has it’s place, but there is nothing quite like color.
