Beauty And The Gloom

by Jon Katz

The challenging thing about nature (one of them) is that gloom is often beautiful, almost everything nature does is beautiful, if you keep your eyes and head open. This hillside captured the gloom of the day in a very beautiful way.

  1. There is dynamic motion and purpose and drive in that falling snow. Those subtle nuanced colors and shades have such dignified beauty. The cool-to-warm tint shading from heaven to earth, the textures of distant trees and softer earth, are just lovely. This is a landscape to love for just what it is. Its winter weather speaks in a quiet clear authority. It draws in some people with an eye and sensibility, and they stay and survive and thrive there.

  2. If you stay with such a scene, after awhile ,
Things shift. On a dark day, I go out and ask god to show me something. One day, it was birds flying overhead…., ducks swimming in the bay during a snowstorm and 8 degree temp.

  3. I thought this picture was lovely. Bright colors are energizing. Soft shades are not necessarily gloomy. I found the picture calming
    Thank you. I needed it.
