Thanks Cate From California, For This Amazing Donation Of Vintage Clothes To The Bishop Gibbons Artists

by Jon Katz

Sue Silverstein sent me this photo of a small part of clothes Cate sent her from California. They arrived today, and the art and photo students are very eager to wear them and take photos of other students wearing them, part of a photo project Sue, who is brilliant at this, is organizing.

The vintage clothes come from all over the country – hats, old furs, dresses, shoes, and pants.

They are quickly filling up one of Sue’s magical eight cubicles of art supplies, ideas, and projects. If you have any vintage clothing that could use a new home, the address is: Sue Silverstein, Bishop Gibbons High School, 2600 Albany Street, Schenectady, N.Y., 12304.

Sue’s art program is exciting and draws kids from all over the school and away from TikTok and Instagram for a while. Creative sparks fly all over the art program; her students are discovering the artists inside of them. Her students are excited and learning that art is great fun and a powerful empowerer.

Sue is rocking in her element. I hoped to get to the school this Thursday, but the weather looks ugly. Arrrghh. I feel like the Wizard behind the curtain, but it doesn’t seem to be slowing or stopping these fabulous donations, which are starting to come in from all over the country and some of the world.

Thanks, Cate and all of you who are donating. Once the weather breaks, I’ll get out there and take some pictures I can’t wait to take. In the meantime, Sue will keep us posted.
