Re-Imagining The Saturday Blog – A Sabbath (Sort Of) In Pictures For The Blog

by Jon Katz

I went to the Shift Wagon to pick up some salads for dinner and had a chance for another Edward Hopper image, which I can never resist.

I’m thinking of changing the blog on Saturdays.

I’ve always liked the idea of a Sabbath but not the rituals and rigidity behind it. I can turn on my own lights and make dinner and still meditate.

I am eager to work on my spiritual life, and photos are very spiritual. So I want Saturdays to be a quiet, contemplative, and peaceful day for reading, meditation, and silence.

My idea is to post photos without text or essays throughout the day.

I’ll be turning off the Iphone until Sunday. No news anytime.

I’ll take pictures as I’m moved to during the day and post them if they are interesting or worthy.

I want Saturday to be a day of contemplation, creativity, and rest.

The photos are never work for me, and they are never draining or tiring. Writing is essential to me but harder, requiring more energy and focus.

The blog will be its usual self from Sunday on. I want to tone Saturday down some; Maria doesn’t blog or check e-mail on Saturdays, so she needs that rest, and I think I also do.

I’m also very keen on pursuing my spiritual work, which can only be done in peace and silence; there is no news for me or responding to comments on Saturday.

Peace is essential for creativity. I’ve been pretty worn down lately.

Sorry, trolls, you’ll have to feast elsewhere. I love the idea of speaking only in images for one day. I hope to make it worthful for my readers, also.
