The Red Hot Young Artists At Bishop Gibbons High School Want You To See What They Are Creating With The Things You Have Sent Them

by Jon Katz

I can’t imagine a better or more uplifting thing to do than share the art of these amazing young people that your generosity made possible.

The artists in Sue Silverstein’s art program are on fire, staging “crime scene” photos, painting on wood, and painting on canvas.  making wind chimes that sing,  jewelry for sings and necklaces and masks, and taking haunting and beautiful photographs. They want you all to see what you have done.

They are using everything you send them, from vintage clothing to old jewelry, to paint canvases, brushes, and paint, to metal objects, photogenic old ats, and dresses and pants. Every time I visit, I see creative sparks lighting up, proud young children, and sprouting artists and creatives. They are happy and engaged, and excited about going to school.

Everything I post on the blog today was made from supplies and donations sent by readers of my blog, also called the Army Of Good. Come and see.

Please, if you can, keep them coming. You are helping these creative kids discover a lie from Instagram and TikTok. I can’t stop looking at the art they are making.

If you wish to send more used, discarded, or unwanted objects, the arress is Sue Silverstein, Bishop Gibbons High School, 2600 Albany Street, Schenectady, N.Y., 12304. Everything you send will be put to work.

The work these kids do lifts my heart and soul; they are discovering love and creativity past iPhones and computers and learning to love art again.

All of these proud and happy artists (check out their faces) made art entirely of things you send them.

Thank you, thank you, from them, Sue, and me.  Sue Silverstein is creating one of the most exciting and popular art programs in the United State. You, good people, have made it possible.

Please note the look of these blooming artists aces as they show their work to you.

If you have more vintage clothing, used jewelry, or canvases for painting, send them to Sue Silverstein, Bishop Gibbons High School, 2600 Albany Street, Schenectady, N.Y., 12304.

(P.S. The Bishop Gibbons Girl’s Basketball team won the regional championship and will move on to the state championships next week. Congratulations, Sue is very proud, and so is the school.)

The students are making beautiful wind chimes; they can make one out of almost anything.

Painting on wood is a huge hit among the art students. Please feel free to send more, especially in smaller blocks.

  1. What happened to your plan to shut up and just post pictures on Saturdays? Between this long, text-heavy post and the fact that you insist on writing tedious captions for each and every picture, nothing at all has changed.

  2. Wow! All I can say to Sue and you is Bravo. This whole program is wonderful. Such talent these kids exhibit. Keep taking pictures of their creations. Thank you for sharing.
