My New Mirrorless Camera, The SLR-S

by Jon Katz

I wanted to share my new Mirrorless SLR-S Leica camera. In the switch I made with my monochrome, I got the SLR, a 20 mm lens, and a Leica, both used. In the coming year, I hope to also buy two lenses – a Sigma macro lens and an 85 mm lens also Sigma. This is the first Leica camera that permits users to buy lenses from everywhere, so long as they are compatible with the L series Leica. This will give me a chance to really branch out and experiment.

I wish I could afford some of the Leica lenses, but that is way over my head financially. I am very impressed with the new camera; I’m still learning how to use it and will take a Zoom lesson or two next week while Im housebound for a couple of days.

This camera is big and heavy and weatherproof. I’m noticing improved speed and clarity and, in some cases, depth of field. The Q2 is more of an everyday and street camera, those two, along with the Iphone 13 will give me a range of cameras and ideas.

For me, every camera is a new chapter in my creativity and in the way that I see the world. I’ll share what I’m learning and discovering. Thanks for caring.

  1. Don’t discount your 20 mm as a close up lens, Jon! A prime lens like that might have less bokeh but the crispness throughout the shot should be astonishing. How heavy is it? My Fuji x series is light as a feather. I would think the Leica is too.
