Robin Ready To Bat: She Put On Her Game Face Today, Says Her Mother

by Jon Katz

Baseball is taken seriously in my granddaughter Robin’s home. When I took Emma to her first game at Yankee Stadium, I had no idea that baseball would become her passion and work. Emma and Robin’s father, Jay, are baseball editors and writers in New York City.

They take baseball very seriously; it is woven into their lives; Robin is often at Yankee Stadium watching a game with her mother, father, or both.  She is named after Jackie Robinson, who broke the color barrier in baseball.

Today, the baseball season started for Robin’s junior league. She also isn’t kidding when she gets her at bat. Emma calls this here “game face,” a baseball term.

Emma took the picture as it was Robin’s turn to bat. Rumor is she got a hit. I’m not surprised. I wouldn’t want to be pitching that game.
