It’s Getting Cold Again, But Beautiful

by Jon Katz

We had a wonderful but insanely busy day; we have to return to the foot doctor to have my bandage rewound. It came apart this afternoon when I went outside to take this photo. I’ll post some information and stories tonight and tomorrow. Thanks for caring. The two is healing beautifully, but the bandage came apart, and the nurses freaked a bit.  We’re on the way back.

And we need to put some tarpaulin on my raised garden bed. It’s going to go below zero tonight, a Spring surprise.

  1. Be content with below zero. I live in central southern Canada just across the border from Montana & for the next two days we are heading into snowy blizzard conditions…a Colorado Low…sigh…get my shovel out…

  2. Jon, This site may help you. You are way too early to be planting those plants that are sensitive to cold or frost, The seed packets will also note when safe to plant outside. Planting too early does not give you a jump on the plants growing faster. If it is too cold for the variety, they will not grow much if at all, until conditions are favorable or, they will just die. You are a Zone 5a which means you have a good chance of frost or freeze until May 22 (just a week longer than myself) Good luck, hopefully the newly sprouted will survive. Good to see you are healing well. https://garden.org/apps/frost-dates/Cambridge,%20New%20York/

    1. Marianna, I’m well aware of the conventional wisdom about planting seeds thanks. I’d have to be an idiot not to know. Please read my piece today on being a “bad boy” at 75.
