Free Photo Show, Friday Night, Friday, May 26, 2023. A Symbol Of Unfaithfulness, and An Angel’s Home

by Jon Katz

William Shakespeare made Columbine flowers a symbol of marital dishonesty and infidelity. In Hamlet, they were Ophelia’s flowers and weren’t given as a compliment.

I find them among the most delicate and gentle flowers I’ve encountered. They blew in the wind today,  but my Leica portrait lens was faster enough to grab them swaying together. How innocent they looked to me, and how pure.

I bought this beautiful plant a couple of weeks ago; I don’t remember what kind of flower it is. I call it an Angel’s Home.

  1. I love my columbines, especially since they are the only flower that grows on the north side of our home. We started with 4 small seedlings that had purple and white flowers 15 years ago and now we have a beautiful garden filled with an array of different colors. I’m not sure how we got all the beautiful colors but I love seeing them bloom every spring!
