A Terrific Mixed Media Piece From Isaiah, A Senior Student In Bishop Gibbons Art Class, Made With Your Donated Gifts

by Jon Katz

Sue Silverstein alerted me to this beautiful mixed media piece by Isaiah, whose name we last year when he made Christmas pajamas for his grandmother.

Isaiah calls this piece “Magical Octopus.” It was made from discarded objects, toys, and jewelry sent to the school by the Army of Good. Isaiah collected the pieces over time, and when he was ready, he put them together wonderfully and creatively. Sue and her students are showing the world what art can mean to the young in the age of TikTok.

Please help to keep this excellent program going. One way is to send discarded objects to Sue Silverstein, Bishop Gibbons High School, 25 Albany Street, Schenectady, New York, 12304. She and her students will turn them into art. You can see once again how the students devour and re-imagine your gifts.

  1. I’m a pen & ink artist, and I’m good at it, but Isaiah’s piece is just fantastic — I have absolutely NO brain or creative talent with his kind of art! I LOVE it, but I could never do it!!!
