News from the Art Room – Simply Beautiful!

Last night we had an open house for students looking to attend next year. I love showing the art program to potential students and parents. We are so blessed by all of you and your undying support. Parents and students are genuinely amazed at the work we can do and the artwork the students produce. Our current students act as guides and love to show off their creations and explain where the materials come from. It makes my heart smile. Thank you for every donation you have made to make this possible. We appreciate everyone and understand that Jon and Maria have supported our work all this time. They are the angels in our corner.

I’ve felt a little behind the curve this year with all that has gone on in my life, but I think the kids are now so happy to be back full steam that they are making up for lost time. My seniors have only a short time left at NDBG. The prom is tomorrow evening, and they look forward to the future. So many of them have been accepted to great programs and hope to improve the world. I know they will. I always tell them that they are the world’s future.

The Studio Art kids are still working on batik. Waxes and dyes are everywhere, and they are doing charming work.

The younger students have been working on stained glass designs with ink and watercolor. A few of them were so happy with the results that they framed the work as a gift for their mom or grandma.

The painters are in high gear! We were gifted with many large canvases that we have reclaimed, and they are taking some risks, trying paintings they were not sure they could pull off. Amazing is a good word, but it’s not good enough. They are excited, some who have never really been into painting. I think it’s the size factor. They are spending every free minute working. It’s wonderful to see.

The photography class worked with sun prints this week; we finally had the weather. Next week will be vintage fashion photo week, which is always fun!

Thank you to Bonnie, Andrea, Kathy, Pat, and everyone who sent treasures this week! I am so grateful for the donations and the letters to the kids. They love the letters from Kathy, who tells them about her experiences in school years ago and often sends photos.

Senior Kyle was delighted with some straw mats and had been creating impressive lettering designs. We see things when we open a box, and our imaginations take over.
