The Cambridge Pantry Is Open Back Up And Helping People In Need, So Are We. Let’s Help Them

by Jon Katz

Time to stack up the shelves. We are getting there.

_________

Things are pretty much where we briefly left off. The SNAP program is not yet fully operational, the number of people needing food help continues to grow, and government support for it continues to shrink, as do their reserves.

We have been playing a key role by supplying items and food that the Food Banks no longer offer, that the Pantry can no longer afford, and that the people who need them have no money to buy.

This food is critical to help morale.

Thanks for stepping up to help get the Thanksgiving Giveaway up and running.

I hope we can pick right up.

Today, Sarah has requested these items:

Campbell’s Chunky Soup, Steak and Potato, (Case of 8), $13.73.

Campbell’s Chili Mac (Case of 8), $13.73.

Knor Pasta Side Dish, Alfredo Fettuccine, $6.00.

__________

Thanks to the Cambridge Pantry volunteers from the Army of Good.

____________

Welcoming Denny, a new truck driver who is essential to the Pantry; he is a volunteer, of course. The Community cares.

One crucial way to help the pantry is to check the constantly update Cambridge Food Pantry Amazon Food Wish List. This list is updated constantly, and everything on it is urgently needed and hard to get.

You can access the wish list at any time by clicking on links here or on the ” Pantry Button at the bottom of every blog page on my block. When you’re up in the light, restless about things, you can make a big difference by sending something from the list.

We are working hard to rebuild stock and replace items wiped out by the SNAP panic.

Anything you can do to help will be greatly appreciated.

  1. More music to enjoy. These guys will brighten your day with their lustrous sounds:
Oscar Petterson, Eddie Higgins, “Autumn Leaves”, Vince Giraldi: “Autumn Leaves”, (I inevitably hear this song every day). Error Garner, Cannonball Adderly, Duke Ellington, “Little Darlin'”. Dave Brubeck Quartet at Carnegie Hall, 1963.
Pat Metheny, anything and everything, 1978-forever, but “Offramp” is damn near perfect, as is everything on that album. I’ve so enjoyed his changing musical style, beholden to no one.
Young up and comers:: Will Braham, Derek Bomback, jazz guitarists, composers, who went to school with my daughter, a pianist and vocalist. Josh Nelson, often played on our KJZZ, broadcast from Long Beach State U.
On your coast: Jazz saxophonist, Mark Zelensky and his pianist brother Glenn, out of Boston.

If you don’t enjoy jazz or don’t want me to recommend music, pls feel free to let me know. I assume you have enough to read. If you LOVE jazz and visit the west coast, try to catch anyone at Sam First, a great jazz club near LAX.

I LOVE Maria’s Monday videos. Always look forward to them and wish they were longer. So glad Zip is warm and cozy in his kittie habitat and that other animals have their own refuge during these cold days. I’m enjoying your photo adventures and experimentation with your new lens.

    Enjoy your day!!!!

    1. Thanks Georgette I’m not a jazz fan but someone else here might be – it’s up to you really and thanks either way.
