Flower Art, Friday, December 26, 2025. Nothing Gold Can Stay. Huge Storm Is Here. We’ll Live. I’d Never Trade An Inch Of The Farm For A Yacht Or Mansion In Florida.

by Jon Katz

“Nothing Gold Can Stay,” Robert Frost.

“Nature’s first green is old,

Her hardest hue to hold.

Her early leaf’s a flower;

But only so an hour.

Then leave subsides to leaf.

So Eden sank to grief.

So dawn goes down to day.

Nothing Gold can stay.”

Note: a massive storm is arriving, with a good chance of losing power today or tomorrow. See you later. Winter pasture pictures are likely.

My assistant loves eating moles and mice crawling under the cold snow. He loves a storm. So do we.

I have no idea what these flowers are called – some orchid – but I love taking pictures of them. I rarely get one in the house.

My bird friend is waiting for me every morning in the bush outside the window. We stare at each other.

  1. maybe you could ask B and his grandmother if they would like to board zip for the winter. I am sure they would provide warmth and comfort for him…not a good look for someone who wrote books professing to love animals to freeze a cat, now is it?

    1. Sam,Happy New Year, thanks for caring about Zip, I’m afraid I’ve never had a really good look and it might just be that it’s too late. B has his own barn cat that he loves. Thanks for reading my blog.

      1. Your photography is pure art. Thank you for sharing Robert Frost’s poetry, he’s a favorite of mine. Zip is at his home, and taking this away from him would be devastating, I think. I live in northern wyoming and 150 year old records have been broken all over the state. Record highs. Christmas morning we had the windows open, 65 degrees. This is concerning. I hope that you don’t lose power and keep that vision of spring. Happy new year to you and Maria, and all of the fuzzy beasts.

  2. What on earth is the matter with people like Sam — they just don’t get what a great life Zip has — his own warmed cat house in the barn and acres of beautiful natural farmland with trees, brush, stream, animal friends, and all the rodents he can enjoy hunting, plus healthy feedings provided 3 times a day, veterinary care, and warm cuddles by you and Maria!? How ignorant can people be?? I don’t know how you manage to hold your tongue, Jon….

    1. Thanks Pam’very well said. I’ve learned to keep my tongue in my mouth the hard way. Sam can’t listen or learn and zips happiness is a joy. Sam probably thinks he is an animal lover. Truth is not the point. There’s too much argument I won’t add to it with people who who know nothing and can’t listen or learn. Happy New Year to you.
