How Artists Fight Back. How They Can Help: New From Maria: “Healing Mary…” Nothing Could Be More Timely

by Jon Katz

Artists don’t generally march in protests, fundraise, or leave angry messages for people in Congress. They look for ways to offer comfort and light in their art, much as flowers can.

Maria is working on something new, something very timely. Something needed. It’s her way of fighting back, as the flowers are mine.

“Healing Mary” refers to the legendary role of the Virgin Mary (Mother of Jesus) as a universal source of spiritual, emotional, and physical restoration within the Christian tradition, but in recent years, much beyond that.

It is said to bring inner healing, speaking to words of self-love, grief, sadness, fear, and the “mother wound” we are all feeling these days.

Mary is worshipped all over the world, Christians or not.

At least partially in response, Maria has started work on “Healing Mary,” a handmade piece. “Healing Mary” is not finished yet or priced. It will be a hanging piece for a wall.

It is available to people who love it, want it, or need it: [email protected].

Maria just started working on “Healing Mary.” I see it is a work of the heart. In a way, Maria is all about healing.

Maria wrote about “Healing Mary” on her blog, fullmoonfiberart.com. You can follow it there if you wish.

“I opened the book to a chapter called “Healing Mary.”

Right away, I liked the words. The way they sounded, and maybe the healing, was what I needed.

I leafed through the book and came across a simple painting of Mary, her eyes looking off to her right.

I put the book back on the shelf, got out some paper and a pencil, and started drawing my Healing Mary.”
