Our friend Darryl Kuehne came to the farm Tuesday afternoon with Ted the ram and a Karakul ewe Maria promptly named Kim, in honor of her friend and fiber colleague Kim Macmillan. Ted is staying with us for two months, through two breeding cycles, then returning to Vermont. Kim is staying with us, we bought her from Darryl’s daughter Grace.

The donkeys were wary of the two newcomers, and Ted, a Cheviot, wasted no time, he showed a lot of interest in the female ewes, he got right down to it. We believe Kim is bred and may have a lamb within a month or two. We have a lot to do to get ready, medicine, trimmers, stalls, vitamins. Ted seems a gentle, easygoing creature, Red didn’t even have to push him around. The pasture just got a lot livelier, we are looking forward to lambing. The Karaluk wool is very interesting and unusual, Maria will have fun selling the yarn.
