by Jon Katz

Kinney Road

From 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 28, Gardenworks (518 854-3250) will be hosting a two-hour benefit for the Agricultural Stewardship Society (ASA), a farmland conversation group based in Washington County, N.Y. I will be there with Izzy and Lenore, giving a talk about photos, farmland conversation, and my forthcoming novel, “Rose In A Storm,” and sign books, including “Soul Of A Dog.”
Corinna Aldrich, who took the photos in the ASA Calendar along with me will be on hand as well. The ASA will be selling its beautiful new calendars, which can be seen and purchased at their website online.
In addition, Gardenworks will be selling Christmas wreaths and gifts, muffins, cider donuts, pies, gourmet cheese and produce. I’m trying to talk Maria into selling her potholders there as well, if she can make enough. The ASA has preserved thousands of acres of vanishing farmlands from fast-encroaching development. The calendar is beautiful, the cause is worthy.  The photos include Corinna’s heartfelt portraits of rural and farm life, and my own photos of Washington County and the animals on my farm. We always have fun at Gadenworks and there is always great stuff to eat, see and buy there. Come if you can. 1 to 3 p.m.

On January 9, 2010, the Redux Gallery in Dorset, Vt. will present “Portraits of My Life,” show of my photographs from the farm, other farms (farmscapes), the animals here, Kinney Road, and even a spiderweb and pincushion. Our definition of portrait is loose and wide-ranging. The photographs will be sold as fine art, and we are trying to produce some of them smaller and more cheaply, so there will be a range of prices for the photos. For more information, call 802-867-4211.
