Winter pasture. Waiting for the storm

by Jon Katz
Storm coming

There’s a storm out there somewhere nearby, and different notions about it. A friend called me from New York City in a panic. “Have you heard?” he said. “A storm is coming, more closings and traffic. Are you okay?”

A neighbor called and said: “Great news, a storm is coming. It will be beautiful.” All sorts of says to look at it. Storm Center is alarmed, sending out severe weather alerts all over the place, warning people to stay inside and off the roads and hide.

Schools in NJ report they have to close when there is a storm watch, or people may sue. Drama, drama. I will head out shortly to see if I can run into the storm. I called Ed Rouse and asked him about the weather and no storm is expected there. Everybody looked outside and called it much-ado-about-nothing. I had invited some friends over to dinner, and was going to cancel when I checked the weather online, then I went outside and looked at the sky and I agree with Ed Rouse. Dinner is one. We’ll see.

I love the time before the storm. You can tell if it is going to storm by looking at the donkeys. If they are in the Pole Barn, it will storm shortly. If they are down by the feeder, it will not. They are between the pole barn and the feeder.
