Windowsills. Before. After (Almost).

by Jon Katz
Creeping crud

The windowsills in our living room are awash in creeping crud – dead bugs, cracked paint, dust and dirt. My jobs today were to finish mowing – Florence’s thermometer said 100 degrees – and to begin sanding the windowsills. I love that work and will finish it tomorrow. It took me about a half hour a sill and I got all but two. I have to blow the dust away, wash the sills, sand them some more and then I’ll put a coat of wood stain on them. This sill looked like this above and when I done, like that (below.). I’ll get the rest of the paint tomorrow.

I am surprised at how much I enjoy working on this house. Maria is a part of that, but it is not something I have done a lot of myself. About time. We are planning on moving to the new farm in time for Halloween.

After

The sills had been rained on fairly heavily and the old layers of paint were cracked and practically fused with the wood.I’ll finish it off tomorrow.
