Doing Hair: Talking To Animals

Doing Their Hair: Talking To Animals

Every morning, before we bring the hay out, I work with Red and/or Fate and the sheep. Maria does the girl’s hair.  I was surprised to learn how much equines loved to be groomed and tended to, these three are all Queens in their own way, they come and park by Maria and wait their turn to have their coats and tails brushed, their ears cleaned out, to be fussed over and maybe get an apple or a carrot.

It is a sweet sight to see these three animals stand so quietly and sweetly, each awaiting their turn, each secure that it will come. This is a way of talking to animals, a way they have of communicating with us, if only we can learn to listen. This is how they tell us how they are, how they learn how we are.
