One of my many remarkable students, Sandy Van Dyk, leaves for a month in Kenya tomorrow, she is going to write about her trip on her new blog (going up today), which will be called Blue Weed. Sandy, a teacher, student of African-American culture and writer, is also a person of great faith.

Her trip is, in part about helping various social groups in Kenya work together to help co-ordinate education programs for the young and the needy. Sandy writes beautiful about her experience in Africa – she has spent a good deal of time in Kenya and her thoughtfulness and insights are one of the things that make my class so special.

I love the way she listens and things, I love the fact that her faith is great but always loving, never angry or judgmental. She is a good friend and I will miss her, in my class and in my life. I can’t wait for her blog to go up.

Our class met today for the first time in a month, we will resume regular classes in September, when everyone is back from vacation. Can’t wait to hear Sandy’s reports and read them.
