The Mural Mob Strikes: Bishop Maginn’s Cafeteria

by Jon Katz

Olivia Amedio is the Queen of the Mural Mob at Bishop Maginn High School, where I spent much of the day.

I wanted you to see what the five cans of acrylic paint you sent to Sue Silverstein’s art class last week have accomplished. This one has transformed the north wall of the school cafeteria.

Your contributions made this mural possible.

Olivia designed the mural (the walls of Bishop Maginn are uniformly dull and devoid of color) under the watchful eye of Sue Silverstein, the school’s art and theology teacher, and an artist herself.

Olivia and the Mural Mob are planning additional murals for the school (this one is in the Bishop Maginn cafeteria) and also for several institutions and buildings in the city.

The Mural Mob won an award to design a mural for the Albany College Of Pharmacy, it’s being painted now.

To support the Mural Job’s intense school spirit, I ordered 10 baseball caps that have “Bishop Maginn Mural Mob” imprinted on them, they’ll arrive sometime next week.

Great job, Olivia.

  1. Congratulations, Olivia. Your mural is wonderful. I especially love your use of color. I suspect it makes a huge difference in the ambiance of the cafeteria. Keep up the good work!
